Gail & Brett Sherwood's Mexico Coues

I was able to hunt with my Uncle Gail and cousin Brett this year. On the second day of hunting Brett and I found this buck from the first morning and snuck into 400yds and Brett took his great 109" buck.

On the 3rd morning we all headed to a spot that we've seen some good bucks in the past. As we glassed the far off mountains I kept coming back to a little spot only 200yds away. On my 3-4 time swinging my bino's through this spot there was this buck and a doe standing there. My Uncle Gail was a little ways a way and I had to get his attention really quickly. He got over there faster than I imagined he could move. He got set up on a tripod and took this buck.

I couldn't have been happier for my Uncle Gail. He's been down to the ranch with me 3 different times and this is his biggest buck. I hope I have the chance to hunt with him again and take a bigger buck. It's fun to watch him get excited to hunt coues at his age. Uncle Gails buck scored 112"

Broc Brimhall's Mexico Coues

This is Broc Brimhall's buck from Mexico this past season. Broc was holding out for a giant buck, But with a couple of bad days of weather and the deer not completely in the rut we struggled to find the giant. Broc's brother Brett and I had found this buck three day before and named him the "red" hill buck. Everyday he would be hanging out on the red hill. On the last day Broc, Brett and I went in and found the " RED HILL" buck and Broc ended up taking him at over 600 yds.

Here's a great buck that Brett Brimhall took with us on our Mexico trip this past season. This buck escaped a few shots for a couple of hunters but was finally brought down by Brett. Thanks Brett and Ryan for the fun trip this year.

Ryan Diquattro Mexico Coues

Here's a great Mexico coues we took this past year with Ryan Diquattro. After having some major rifle problems the day before. We snuck into one of my favorite spots and found this buck. After the first shot my heart sank when Ryan's rifle was off again. He compensated for the miss and made his second shot count. This buck has some of the same characteristics as our big 130" buck we took off the ranch a few year's prior. Congratulations Ryan on a great buck.

Eric Decker's Mexico Coues

Here's a buck I was able to help Eric take on one our ranches in Mexico. We found this buck and two others rutting a couple does really hard. We got set up and waited on the buck to give us a perfect shot. Eric made a great shot at 400 yds taking his first Mexico buck. The buck scored 108". Thanks to Buck Leavitt for all his help.

Christel Wehling's Mexico Coues

Christel and her husband Ed joined us in Mexico this year for our coues hunt. This would be their first time hunting coues. We had a few days of bad weather that put a damper on our hunting. When the weather broke we made a trip around the ranch and found this buck bedded in the snow. Christel made a great shot on her first coues deer. Thanks Ed and Christel for the fun time in Mexico.

A shed A head and A Broken Arm

In 2002 while hunting alone on a coues deer hunt I was stalking in on three bucks when I picked up this giant shed. I ended up taking the biggest of the three buck which scored 105". After taking care of the buck and packing him out I took a fall and broke my elbow. Some of the loose bones had cut the blod vessel in my arm and let it fill with blood. I knew immediately that it was broke but had no choice but to finish hiking out to my truck and drive home.

After surgery and a hunt in old Mexico I was telling my good friend Jerry Van Cleve about the shed I found. He said to bring it over to his house he thought his neighbor who had the same hunt had killed the buck I had picked the shed up from. It obvious its from the same buck. The big two point ended up scoring over 90" as a two point.
I guess the moral to this story is. With hunting season already in full swing be careful while your out there. Sorry with the clarity of some of the pictures. This was before I had a digital camera.

They hunted hard for 5 days and finally decided this was the buck for them.Rick's buck scored 105. Sorry about the first picture and the grass Rick.

Jerry Watkins Mexico Buck

Jerry took this great looking coues deer with HDO on our ranch in Mexico. This buck has split G2's like the 128" buck that R.H. Bryant took with us. We've seen this gene on a few other bucks on the ranch. Jerry's buck scored 108 with over 6 inches broken off the main beam.

R.H. Bryant's B/C Coues 128"

R.H Bryant took this once in a lifetime coues deer with us on our ranch in old Mexico. R.H. and I had been on a buck the day before that I told him was the biggest buck I had ever seen in Mexico. I thought the buck was in the mid 120's. The next morning we were back in the same spot we had been the day before. As luck would have it we found the buck but he was chasing a doe and had gone over a couple of ridges. Right then Greg call and told us that him and his hunter had found a buck and it was the biggest buck he had ever seen we couldn't believe it. To giant bucks in the same day.We high tailed it back to the truck and met up with Greg, we hiked in and found the buck still bedded. We sat on the buck till he got up. R.H. took his great buck with a 7mm STW. His buck scored 128"
